Bomber Jacket

By

Bomber jackets and Fight coats continue to be popular even though they've been around since the First World War

Traditional bomber jackets that were worn by pilots in World War I were replaced by technology. Heated suits began to be used in the Second World War primarily because of the lighter weight.

Pilots in America were forced to use whatever they could before the advent of the bomber jacket. They use of a very warm coat was essential because the pilots were routinely exposed to temperatures well below freezing while riding in open cockpit airplanes.

Today's bomber jackets come in many different styles and colors. There are styles suited for either sex on the market. You can get a bomber jacket for any social situation or climate. What you will see on the market today is certainly made for this century.

Today's jackets can be made of many different materials. Shearling is made of sheep skin that the wool was never separated. The material is a little heavy and also very warm. This is the kind of fabric to make a jacket with if it's very cold outdoors. This may not be the best material of choice for those who are of petite build since jackets made in this way are quite heavy.

Bomber jackets can be made with synthetic fibers as well. The advantages of using this fabric are that it is a lot lighter compared to shearling and is still warm. You can get a bomber jacket that is made with synthetic fiber for a much lower price as well. They're really not as warm as a regular bomber jacket made from shearling, yet they're still pretty warm. A good middle ground for people looking for a fabulous bomber jacket is bomber jackets made from leather. It's good in nearly all kinds of weather and is not too expensive by comparison to others.

One key consideration you should make when purchasing a warm winter jacket is to determine whether or not you want to purchase a water resistant jacket or not. Water resistant may be especially crucial if you are hiking or camping, and of certainly when it is raining and you are on your way to work. Jackets suitable for rainy days come in many styles. When selecting a goose down jacket, water resistance is very crucial. Once a down jacket becomes wet it will do you no good at all because the soaked through feathers cannot keep you warm.

If you live in an area that experiences cold weather, a warm jacket is a necessity. Even if you live in an area where it doesn't get that cold very often, you will be glad you had one when is does. Even if it's only one day a year, that lightweight jacket is just not going to cut it when the temperature is 30 degrees. Perhaps one day, you will take a vacation up north during the winter time. Canada or Alaska are two examples of places where this is an essential item to have all year round.

Bomber jackets make great winter jackets as they are designed for warmth and are also quite stylish. Take my suggestions though and obtain a water resistant one and you won't regret it!
